I had been looking for 1/6 scale rocks glasses FOREVER, and finally managed to track some down. I'd found these on etsy, and although scale wasn't listed, the measurements seemed right so I bought a bunch. Beyond thrilled when they came in. They're real glass, the size is perfect, and they're gorgeous. Couldn't resist getting a few shots.

Another new (or more accurately redone) character for the House of Seasons. Koda's took me a bit to write, but I'm really happy with it now. Check out the story and gallery here.

It has been too long since an update here. This summer has been a world-wind of so many new projects, and I so badly need to pause, take a breath, and then get some photos of everything. The cast of characters from the world of the Radio kings has gotten huge, with 6 finished figures, 1 more I'm still struggling with a backstory on, and another 3 1/2 or mostly done, that I'm sort of stalled on. A modded Furiosa, some X-men, and lots of little environment details, and some truly HUGE 1/6 dioramas I have in the works.
But up before any of that, I wanted to announce the 3rd and hopefully final version of my House of Seasons figure. The 1st ones were done with 27 cm Volks bjd bodies. While there were some great elements that I've kept and reused right up through the current incarnation and a a few that were a shame to loose (like the LED light up eyes) they really do look primitive compared to what they've become. House of Seasons 2.0 was where I really defined the line and expanded the cast of characters. Lots of work I'm really proud of, as the story started to really gel in my head. The Original Effect bodies were, at the time, the perfect base to start with building these characters. Unfortunately, the shoddiness of their construction became more apparent as time passed. wrists and necks broke and crumbles. Joints were unstable and figures couldn't be reposed without arms popping out of the sockets and hands falling off. Getting them to stay standing was a nightmare. I had so many ideas for photos, but they just were too difficult to deal with. Recently, Phicen/TBLeague released new seamless bodies that were finally the right fit to replace all of the current main characters from the House of Seasons Line. While I kept most of the Original Effect Head sculpts, the new bodies make such a huge difference, and sturred me to make a bunch of changes I've so badly wanted to make. No more exposed joints. The steel skeleton is just so much more fun to pose, and looks incredible in pictures. Isblomma of Winter isn't as towering as she was, but has a completely new head sculpt and looks incredible. Koda has been been heavily updated and I couldn't be happier, and I have some plans to update Corbin and Lisette as well soon. So stick around. A lot of the old House of Seasons photos are going to get replaced with all new photoshoots, as well as a ton of all new stuff. Can't wait to share it all here! Finally seeing some decent weather, so that means it's time to get outside and shoot some photos. Been so busy working on a ton of new projects, but recently picked this up at the craft store, and thought it would be great for 1/6 backgrounds. Saint Crow is working on his best summer mix tape, and Marrow just wants to dance. While I was out there, I realized the lawn was badly in need of mowing. But I thought I'd take advantage of the overgrown vegetation for a quick pic. And just in case anyone's wondering what Crowther and Marrow are listening to: So, I thought this would be a quick easy project. Make a quick Weapon X helmet, a couple mechanical bits, a few wires, throw them on a naked Wolverine. Get a few cool photos. Done and done. These things never work out that way though. Ended up going deep into every piece, getting pretty elaborate on the leather straps, and adding an LED to the helmet. Just finished up today, and I'm thrilled with the results. I want to do a big photoshoot, elaborate background, maybe a bit of action, and def plan to get some pics next time it shows. But was so excited to have finished today, I couldn't resist getting some photos. And while i was at it, I couldn't resist doing some super stylized shots. A quick note, but I didn't have any kind of background that would work, so I threw together a faux concrete wall in under an hour. Textured it up with a big rock I found under my porch, painted it concrete grey, then a big wash of grimey black. Kept blasting it with the hairdryer so I didn't have to slow down, and could get these pics while there was still some sun. Really happt with how it came out, and it's a great start on a versatile military base/lab kinda diorama background I have planned. Productive day!
I realized last night that there were a few great pics I had posted on Instagram, that never made it to the site. This was from my last snow day. After driving home in treacherous conditions, I thought I'd drab a pic of Saint Crow that summed up what i was feeling. And like Saint Crow, I celebrated with a few drinks. Recently picked up one of these miniature marquee style light up signs. I thought it might be fun in some post-apocalyptic pics. What you can’t see it that I’ve already repainted the sides and back with a bunch of rust and grime. Figured a good group photo was in order. These are both of Never, the 2nd of the Radio Kings. She’s about 90% done, but couldn’t resist sharing this pics.
As I've mentioned before, I'm always on the lookout for things that, while maybe not their original intention, have a great use in 1/6 scale. I thought I'd snap off a few quick pictures tonight of some recent finds. Metal BarrelsWhile I'm reluctant to endorse Hobby Lobby, I know I'm not the only one who was looking for these type of barrels. I believe it's actually a candle holder, but it's perfect in 1/6. I plan to repaint the 2 I got, but they still look pretty good as is. Also, don't do what Saint Crow is doing below. Military CasesWhile I'm already buying pretty much everything that comes out in the 1/18 scale Acid Rain line, an nice bonus is that every figure comes in 1 of these cool plastic storage containers. The ones in the picture have already gone through a good blackwash and some weathering powders, but they're fantastic as is, and make perfect 1/6 military style crates. Test TubesThese were sort of a special request, and acquired from Etsy seller OneSixthArsenal. I have no idea what they were intended for, but they're all glass with rubber stoppers, and are perfect in 1/6, His store in general has a bunch of rad stuff, and I highly recommend checking it out. SkeletonI had seen someone else make the recommendation (I believe on OSW) for a very decent, very cheap 1/6 scale skeleton. It came with The Bones Book and Skeleton, and was actually packaged in the display dome pictured. I had painted the base brass, and gave the skeleton a wash of brown paint, and I think he looks pretty good.
Dammit Crowther, stop fucking with everything you find. |
