1/6 Scale Hand of Glory

Knocked this out the other night.  For anyone unfamiliar with the Hand of Glory, here is the description from Wikipedia:

"The Hand of Glory is the dried and pickled hand of a man who has been hanged, often specified as being the left (Latin: sinister) hand, or, if the man were hanged for murder, the hand that "did the deed."
According to old European beliefs, a candle made of the fat from a malefactor who died on the gallows, lighted, and placed (as if in a candlestick) in the Hand of Glory, which comes from the same man as the fat in the candle. This would render motionless all persons to whom it was presented. The candle could be put out only with milk. In another version, the hair of the dead man is used as a wick, and the candle would give light only to the holder. The Hand of Glory also purportedly had the power to unlock any door it came across."

Seemed a useful thing in the House of Seasons world.  Currently using a 2 pound coin as the base of the bell jar, but may swap it out if i find something more appropriate.

Witches Lab

Been playing with the lab idea for a while.  Some basement of the school in House of Seasons, where potions, supplies, tools, and enchanted objects are kept, and that functions as a workshop, especially for occult technologies students.  This would definitely be where Thornapple spends most of her time.

The floor is all real tile, 1/2 painted black.  Walls are plywood, bead board, molding, and hand printed art paper for the wall paper.  And no, not hand printed by me.  I thought it would be so easy to grab some scrapbooking paper, but nothing was big enough to use, or would work to put end to end and tile the walls.  Paper I ended up with was way more than I planned to spend, but seemed like the only good option I could find.  It's all done with a metallic ink and looks gorgeous, so I feel like it was worth it in the end.

The whole thing is 36" x 24", and about 24" tall.

I have a lot more detail I want to add, but I thought it was worth a quick photo shoot.

Knocked out a bunch of Ouija board planchettes last night, out of balsa wood and tiny brad heads.  Now, I finally feel like these are finished.

1/6 Scale Bed

As I've started working on backgrounds and environments for 1/6 scale figures, I've been looking more and more at miniature furniture, what's available, and what I could make. A bed seemed like a good place to start.

Made with wood and insulation foam (which is quickly becoming one of my new favorite things to work with).

I thought some fun pics were in order.

Scrolls (Part 1)

This is another one of those projects that just started coming together, and took off, and I was just along for the ride.  I got the idea that a scroll might be a cool accessory for a House of Seasons character.  I'm not even sure which one at this point because it immediately made sense that almost all of the House of Seasons characters would use and carry scrolls.
Picture
I pretty much had everything I needed already around the house.  Wooden dowels, wood stain, a nice stiff textured resume paper, some leather cord, and some tiny metal crests I picked up in the scrapbook section of the craft store.  I did the writing with a rubber stamp I picked up, that I thought looked perfect.  Might just knock out a bunch more soon for background props or just future figures.

A few days later, I ran into this person's work online, and this tutorial on making scrolls that kinda blew anything I was doing away.  Just gorgeous.  So now I'm taking a few ideas from what they did, and upping my game for round 2.

Ouija Boards

I figured a witch could use a Ouija board, so I knocked some out last night.  Designed in Photoshop, then transferred to wood with this orange oil cleaner I use.  Wanted something that looked old and beat up, and I'm really liking the result.

Each is about 6" wide.  I need to design planchettes for them (the little Ouija board pointer things.  Don't worry, I had to look it up too), so I'll definitely post pictures of them when I figure them out.
