I've been playing around with making a 7" predator figure with this color scheme, and am hoping to attack doing a 1/6 scale one next year, so imagine how blown away I was when he made me this one in my colors! Seriously, I just keep smiling every time I see it. The removable mask is so awesome, and I love how angry he looks!
For my birthday this year, my good friend over at Toymungus Customs hooked me up with this AMAZING mini Predator figure. Being honest, I've really wanted one since he started making them, and was about ready to ask him to name his price. So, Sam over at Toymungus customs dropped this fucking bomb of a project on us today. Seriously, this Mad Max War Rig is simply epic. All 1:18 scale, its base is a GI Joe boat mounted on an RC car chassis. And his War Boys just look amazing. And as slick as it is, Sam is still calling it a work in progress, so it's only going to get more awesome.
So after spending the day marveling at its awesomeness, taking turns posing the War Boys on it, and driving it around, another friend threw out the idea "Dude, how cool would it be if we all did figures of different post-apocalyptic Mad Max style clans!?!" So that's it. The idea is too epic, and simply has to happen. All 1:18 scale, figures, vehicles, blood, sweat & dirt. It's a long-term project, and it's not like I don't have a ton of other projects in the works, but this just seemed too fun not to get in on. Sam kicked this off and set a crazy high bar, so I've got to really bring it if I'm going to come close to his awesome work. I'll be posting update pics as we go, so you'll see some work from the other guys involved, as well as my own. So stay tuned, it should be a fun ride. Wouldn't that just be an amazing new direction for the show to take? If Arrow just went all Lovecraftian next season? The Old Gods would really put into perspective a lot of the little problems on that show, that's for sure. But no, I'm not pitching here for the weirdest crossover in TV history, but just showing off some stuff I worked on, and throwing some attention at a couple of amazing artists I know. A friend of mine has been making incredible 3.75" figures of Tesla & Lovecraft, so I though I'd hook him up with a 1:18 scale Necronomicon for his birthday. It was just something I wanted to make, I thought Lovecraft might need, and an excuse to play a little bit in his world. Check out his work at KungFu Grip Customs here. Aliens, GI Joes, and TONS of amazing Predators. His Tesla and Lovecraft figures are some of my all time favorite customs, and Tesla's giant Wardenclyffe retro mech-armor is just incredible. I've also been helping another artist friend out on a really great project of his. The picture barely does it justice, but I still think it looks pretty damn good. He wanted to do a LED-lit multi-layerd shadow box for 1 of his pieces. So we put our heads together, and this is how it came out. In person, you get a way better sense of the depth between layers, and just how slick it looks. I figured out a few tricks to layer and light, but all art credit goes to Brian Roll, whose awesome work you can find here and here.
You can go see it in person at his booth at Wizard World in Philadelphia, so stop by and visit him if you're going to be at the show. After the show, word is it's getting signed by Stephen Amell and auctioned off at Nocking Point's Philidelphia Wine Mixer for one of his charities of choice. |
